Southside LifeCare Centers Programs and Services for Women in Difficult Pregnancies Southside LifeCare Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM. Every Tuesday there is an on-site Prenatal Clinic staffed by nurse midwives from Fairview Hospital for women on Medical Assistance (M.A.) Some women with insurance also use this clinic; others go to their own doctors for prenatal care. Uninsured women are referred to the St. Mary’s Medical Clinics for free care.
On Thursdays Southside’s registered nurse performs free, Level 2 Ultrasounds by appointment.
The basement at Southside LifeCare Center holds a “store” where participants in the Earn While You Learn (EWYL) Mentoring Program shop for new baby clothes and new baby items. The women make purchases using points accumulated in mentoring sessions tailored to each individual’s needs and goals.
Thanks to donations, the store contains many racks of beautiful new baby clothes. The shelves and bins hold new diaper bags, baby toys, baby photo albums, crib sheets, bottles, and baby and women’s hygiene items. One entire rack is devoted to girls’ snowsuits; another one is for boys’ snowsuits. The merchandise changes according to season.
Southside is very grateful to churches who host baby and maternityshowers and to individuals who donate new and used items in excellent condition throughout the year.New clothing size 0 to 6 months is given away in baby layettes the moms receive after their babies are born. The larger sized outfits are used as incentives for the women to participate in the mentoring program.
Southside also distributes many bags of free USED baby and maternity clothing every day, as well as diapers, hygiene items and formula. Pregnant women and women who are parenting young children visit the center by appointment once every 3 months and receive clothing for their children along with one large item such as a changing table, high chair, stroller, etc. If the center has a used item in stock in good repair, it is given away upon request.
Southside volunteers evenrefurbish used cribs and bring them up to code before they are given to clients. The work is done on site in a large workshop in the back of the center.
Southside is very grateful to “A Community Caring for Life” volunteers who purchase used baby items in excellent condition at garage sales and deliver them to the center. They are thankfulforpeople who volunteer at the center. Donations of practical items and volunteers who offer support and encouragement empower women to choose life.
