We are a large suburban Catholic community called by God to live out the message of Christ in love and service to all. In the midst of a consumer-driven society we will unite to focus our mission on God‘s presence as the center of our lives. We commit our time, talent and treasure to build God‘s kingdom on earth.
Our Roots:
St. Edward‘s is a community of over 6,400 faith members of men, women, and children -- married and single, young and old. We are located in Bloomington, a suburb of the Minneapolis- St. Paul Metro area in the state of Minnesota. We are located in the Archdiocese of Minneapolis/St. Paul. We are named in honor of St. Edward the Confessor whose feast day is October 13.
St. Edward‘s is a dynamic parish with many of our parishioners involved in church activities as well as community activities. We have over 50 committees that serve a broad range of activities within the church and the community -- from Adult Faith Formation and Stephen Ministry to Bridging (a non-sectarian organization that provides furniture to those in need) and Sister Parish (forming partnerships with churches and schools in Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and the inner city of Minneapolis). St. Edward‘s strives to be a welcoming, open community to anyone who walks through our doors.
Our committees are staffed by volunteers who share their Time and Talent. These are the heart and soul of our community -- individuals who minister to members of our church, our immediate community and to our neighbors overseas.
St. Edward‘s is a tithing community. We rely only on our plate collection for our financial needs. We do not use any special collections, fund drives, or other means of raising funds for St. Edward‘s. We tithe ten percent of our income to projects outside our church.
Our core values are our means and our goals -- Hospitality, Stewardship, and Spirituality. We express our core values in our liturgy, our tithing, our commitment to service within the church and community, and to each other, both locally and globally.
Our parish is moving into the millennium with an anticipation of the future and an awareness of our past. St. Edward‘s was founded in 1966, a relatively short time ago, and in that time we have grown in numbers and spirit. This year, we join the Archdiocese in celebrating its 150th anniversary, and we join our Church in celebrating its 2000th anniversary.
